Senior Poses at Tywappity Lake, Chaffee Missouri
Senior Sessions are so special! This is their one time to shine and get images that they hopefully LOVE to show off for years to come. You want them to be comfortable and feel as confident as they can during their photoshoot because that will show through on the images they receive and how they feel about those images as well.
How you pose them really has an impact on their confidence and having a pocket of different ones and variations will really help YOU be confident as well.
Using Movement and prompts
Movement can be a great way to start off your senior session. Getting them moving can help them feel more comfortable and at ease and less awkward then sitting stiffly looking at the camera.
Also, remember once you get a shot your proud of show it to them! I’ve noticed so many times that this really boosts their confidence, gets them excited and lets them know you got this handled!
Movement shots are more about prompting them rather than posing them. Some prompts you can use are “Walk away from me right here and then turn around and walk back.” Let them know they don’t have to look at the camera. Tell them to look around and back at you as well.
You can have them throw leaves in the air, twirl a bit in a dress, walk and look over their shoulder at you, put their hand through their hair, kick one of their legs back and forth. Any type of movement will really help your photos seem more natural and candid.
In the first photo below the prompt was to look back over his shoulder and fake laugh and I absolutely love the results!
Hands
Pay attention to the hands. Giving their hands an anchor or something to do will really boost their confidence and make them feel grounded. Where you place their hands can make or break a pose, so be aware of where they are and if the senior seems to feel awkward. If they seem stiff or awkward change it up and get them moving again. “Hand on hip, Hand under chin, Lean on elbows, Cross your arms, Hand(s) in pocket, arms around legs.” are a few things you can suggest.
Leaning
Using the elements at the location to Lean against is very helpful when your running out of poses or need more inspiration. Pay attention to what is around you to use in your photos as props or places for them to lean on or up against. This can be good for Sitting or Standing poses.
Sitting
Sitting poses can also be a great way to start out the session if your looking to start with something simple and easy. One thing you have to keep in mind with sitting poses is the size and body shape of your Senior as well. Some of these may or may not work for each individual and that’s okay. Try to plan ahead for this and stick to the poses that you know will work and make them feel and look the most confident!
This location has it all. Woods, Bridges, Water, A boat dock, a Winding Road, pretty parking lot and picnic tables. The perfect spot for a Senior who wants a nature themed Senior Session!
